Posted April 19, 2014. It seems to be an unreasonable load when the clutch engages, as if the brake that brings the pulley to a stop upon un-engagement is not releasing fully. Intuitively, it seems I have to dismantle the PTO and lube the pulley and other rotating parts. The key question is how I would assess if this is necessary.

Aug 11, 2010 · The PTO assembly on the 318 is a clutch/brake unit. It is supposed to stop the driven attachment (think mower blades here...) as soon as the PTO is disengaged. It should NOT spin freely when the power is off. Chuck.

All is fine, no play, no odd noises (with exception of a/c tensioner pulley-blah i'll get around to it). However, the idler pulley is difficult to spin by hand. It looks new, but if you spin it by hand it stops spinning as soon as you stop turning. Like I said, no play what-so-ever, and no odd noises, just stiff (would be the best way to describe).
